Our new program, S.W.A.T. (Senior Warriors Active Training), is aimed at those people seeking an avenue to assist them to take control of outside influences and regain some peace of mind.
The program is based on our normal Zen Do Kai classes but has been modified for those who are over forty years of age or those who have wanted to join a martial arts club but were held back by perceived limitations such as age, injuries, or physical complaints. Such individuals would typically envisage that these issues could be a hindrance to their goals and objectives in relation to the martial arts. The techniques and tactics in S.W.A.T. will be the same as any ZDK class but the delivery and training procedures will be based on a system that acknowledges the mature body and its limits, characteristics and capacities.
In our S.W.A.T. classes, students will learn effective self-defence techniques whilst increasing mobility, fitness and overall self-confidence. The system is founded on drill based role play that reflects the contemporary societal environment. We emphasise the importance and significance of discipline to nurture and encourage self-esteem and self-confidence. All of this combined with the very friendly social aspect of meeting and training with like minded individuals makes S.W.A.T. an excellent community based program that will truly benefit it’s participants.
S.W.A.T. classes will suit individuals wishing to participate in training as a physical activity as well as those students who wish to progress through the various ZDK 'belt ranks' with the ultimate goal of being a ZDK black belt.
S.W.A.T. will also suit people with sports related injuries but who still wish to remain active and maintain a good level of fitness. S.W.A.T. instructors include Kyoshi Mike Quin and Donna Devlin. Donna is a first degree black belt with Zen Do Kai. She is also a registered nurse with rich experience in case work for the community.
